There are many things we take for granted in our modern society that are likely going to be issues for you.
For instance, do you require heart medicine? Begin exploring natural alternatives because as you likely know, few medications can be stocked for longer than a year because of government regulations and freshness. Freshness is a special concern for generally, medications break down in chemical composition after a certain amount of time. A minor problem from such a breakdown is that the medicine becomes ineffective. A major problem is that some can then cause death. Learn now about your meds and take the appropriate measures to protect yourself. Some require special storage, such as cool and dry. Others may require other precautions.

Did you know you can make your own soap? All it takes is lard and lye. This could be an issue so if you like to be clean so stock up on lye and wait. When you fry some bacon from the pigs you are raising, drain the fat and use it to make soap. If you don’t know how, now is the time to learn. Of course, you can also make your own lye and it is really very simple. All you need is some hardwood ash, soft water, and a filtration device (the lye is already in the ash, it just needs to be separated). For a great explanation of this go to

If you have land, begin raising cattle, chickens, pigs, goats, and other such animals. Remember, chickens provide both chicken and eggs. Goats and cattle are good sources for milk, butter, and cheese. Pigs are good for the meat and the lard needed for soap.
Begin to think of everything you will need. Is TV or the Internet important to you? Good luck. Provided the catastrophe is isolated to the US territory, your satellite dish may still work though I doubt it, for the company will likely shut down and service along with it. So if this is a must, start learning what you need to know now to prevent the loss of service.

If you smoke, either get some tobacco seed or stock up now. Otherwise, you are going to love the cold turkey sandwich. Also, bear in mind that even if you don’t smoke, tobacco will be a useful commodity for trading. Some people will do ANYTHING for a cigarette, even defend your home against the banker intent on taking it. If you want to thrive, you will have plenty of good helpers on your side if you can keep them supplied with smokes.
Basically go through your house and think of what kind of things you would need if supply lines were cut for a few years. If you can provide these yourself or learn how, do so. If not and these are musts, stock up.
