Another possibility is that we will form an emergency merger with Canada and Mexico so that these nations can instantly prop us up providing currency, infrastructure maintenance, and centralized governance. This is perhaps less likely than even the previous scenario, but not entirely out of the realm of possibility. Largely, this is unlikely because there will undoubtedly be a domino effect which will topple both of these nations rather quickly after we go, so they will be unable to help. But it is not entirely out of the realm of possibility.
Indeed, we have already seen the formation of the European Union and the Asian Rim nations are discussing a form of Union. Even the African nations are in the process of forming a League. So this could happen.
A few years ago, Lou Dobbs carried a segment on his program discussing the possibility of a new form of currency supposedly signed off on by President George W. Bush called the Amero. It was or is to be form of joint currency with the three North American Nations similar to the Euro.
Of course, this would certainly fit with the goals of NAFTA so one cannot help but wonder if this is what would happen in such an event? It even makes one wonder if that is why Bush was so bent on escalating the debt crisis through war? Could he have been attempting to bankrupt us during his tenure so as to bring just such a scenario about? It’s possible.
One thing is certain regardless of the situation. Whatever powers assume control over the nation, currency will be needed very fast. If we learn from history, it took Russia six months to issue new money so this is going to be an important issue.
It seems likely that whatever scenario emerges, the powers-that-be will issue plastic money as an emergency means with the intent to print money later, though this is unlikely to ever transpire. Once plastic money becomes the norm, few will even want currency and facing facts, plastic just makes it easier to control populations.
Indeed, cash now gives us at least some degree of independence, but plastic, electronically-governed currency will be easy to use to control people. Some have even considered that this could be the “Mark of the Beast” mentioned in the Bible book Revelations.

can say is that the banks seem pretty intent on promoting plastic these days—virtually every bank offers credit or debit cards despite a person’s financial situation or credit. Wal-Mart sells Visa money cards and virtually every major entertainment service, from DirecTV to Dish requires a major credit card for services—even if the customer is paying cash. Add to this the fact that one of the most rapidly growing, though kept mostly silent in the media, is the production of RFID chips.

RFID chips are the radio-frequency-identification chips which have been placed in all U.S. drivers licenses, passports, credit cards, and other such items since 2008 by Congressional approval. In fact, worldwide, these chips are being used by governments in virtually everything. They are even in much of the newer currency, embedded in the strip. At places like airport screenings, customs houses, and other locations, authorities have devices that can instantly read how much money you have on you (in new bills, of course). Rob a bank today and they can find you if they want. The chips transmit a signal which can be located by GPS the same as any other device such as a cell phone (contains RFID) or an automobile GPS (RFID).

This will be important to those in control when collapse occurs for there will be a danger of civil unrest and war for years after.
